2025 Keynote Speaker -Omaha Mayor John W. Ewing, Jr.
A proud son of Omaha, born and raised on the city’s north side, he knows firsthand the transformative power of affordable housing. At age 15, when his parents purchased their first home, he marked the occasion by etching his initials into the cement—a symbol of roots and resilience that still remain today. His parents continue to live in that same house in north Omaha, grounding his lifelong commitment to community.

He is the oldest of three children, the husband of Dr. Viv Ewing, and a proud father of two wonderful daughters and a grandson. A graduate of Northwest High School and the University of Nebraska at Omaha, he holds a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice and Business as well as a Master of Science in Urban Studies.

His professional journey reflects a legacy of service. He served with the Omaha Police Department for 25 years, retiring at the rank of Deputy Chief in 2006. An associate minister with Salem Baptist Church, he continued his public service as Douglas County Treasurer, where he was elected five times and faithfully served the people of Douglas County for 18 years.
On June 9, 2025, he was inaugurated as the 52nd Mayor of Omaha, marking a historic milestone as the city’s first Black mayor. His leadership is grounded in advocacy for equity, affordable housing, and initiatives that strengthen the future of all Omaha residents.

Today, he brings that vision and commitment to the North Omaha Community Care Council, inspiring us all to build a stronger, more inclusive Omaha together.

The North Omaha Community Care Council executive team, board officers, and membership are honored to have him share an inspiring message to our luncheon attendees as Keynote for the 12th Annual Impact Luncheon on Friday, October 31, 2025!

Mayor John W. Ewing, Jr.
